Evening hawker trail
Three and a half hours, six tastings and one rule: we eat where the queue is local.
S$95 / person
What we do
We start under the shophouses on Pagoda Street while the shops are closing and the food is starting, then walk five minutes to a hawker centre that fills up at six. Six tastings across four stalls, chosen for what that evening is best at — the guide decides on the day.
The route is short, the portions are not, and we sit down twice. Vegetarians are easy; most stalls have a good vegetarian version and we will not leave you with rice and cucumber.
Practical
- Meet at the Chinatown MRT exit on Pagoda Street, 10 minutes before the start.
- Wear shoes you can walk in; the pavement is uneven and a little wet by then.
- Drinks beyond the two included are your own — most stalls take cards now, some still do not.
- Under-12s are half price and usually get a second round of whatever they liked best.
What is included
Six tastings, two drinks, a sit-down at the end, and the guide for the evening. Not included: anything from the shops on the way, alcohol, and the taxi home.
